Vascular Assessments

Comprehensive circulation checks for early detection of vascular disease for the population of Lancaster and surrounding areas

Poor circulation often develops silently. Many patients assume that cold feet or slow-to-heal skin are “just part of ageing,” when in fact they can be early warning signs of peripheral arterial disease (PAD).

At Manor Podiatry, we use Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) and Toe Brachial Pressure Index (TBPI) measurements - the same evidence-based methods used in NHS vascular screening.

What ABPI and TBPI measures

  • ABPI: compares blood pressure in the ankle vs. arm
  • TBPI: measures toe pressure for more accuracy in diabetic or calcified arteries
These tests help identify reduced blood flow before symptoms escalate.

What the assessment includes

  1. History & symptoms review
Claudication? Rest pain? Changes in skin colour or temperature?
  2. Clinical examination
Pulses, temperature gradient, capillary refill, and skin integrity.
  3. Doppler ultrasound
    Assessment of arterial waveforms.
  4. ABPI / TBPI readings
    Clear interpretation and guidance.
  5. Findings and advice written clearly and if required follow up letter to GP.

Why this matters

Early detection can prevent ulceration, infections, non-healing wounds, and serious vascular complications.
